Culture Restaurant: Authentic Storytelling for a Sustainable Dining Experience
A behind-the-scenes look at how documentary-led storytelling brings brand philosophy to life.
The Brief
As part of our Earth to Table documentary series, we set out to tell the stories of chefs and restaurants reimagining the future of food. The people who are redefining what sustainability, locality and guest experience can mean in modern dining.
Culture Restaurant in Falmouth, Cornwall, led by chefs and co-owners Hylton and Petronella Espey, was the first story we captured for the series and it's one that perfectly reflects the spirit of this project.
Our goal was to create a visual narrative that felt as personal and grounded as the restaurant itself: one that showcased their commitment to hyper-seasonal local produce, deep relationships with suppliers and connection to Cornwall’s land and sea.
Our Approach
From the very first conversation, it was clear that Culture’s ethos is rooted in a desire to do things differently. Every dish on their menu tells a story and courses are often named after the places and farms that inspired it. That’s what drew us in: this was storytelling through food, geography, and emotion.
We spent three days with Hylton and Petronella to document their world, from foraging on the Cornish coast to the intimacy of their open kitchen. Our focus wasn’t just to capture beautiful visuals but to build trust and connection so we could document their story as it naturally unfolded.
By combining documentary-style photography with cinematic short-form storytelling, we created a set of assets that feel deeply human and reflect both the calm intimacy of their dining space and the adventurous rawness of their personal lifestyle (they spend their free time surfing, mountain biking and hiking in the surrounding area).
Our philosophy when working with hospitality brands is simple: authenticity over artifice. Real stories told beautifully always connect more deeply than curated perfection.

Storytelling in Action
The result was a body of work that reflects Culture’s dual identity: refined yet rooted in nature and adventure. We photographed everything from moments of prep in their softly lit open kitchen to vibrant scenes of mountain biking, surfing, and foraging along Cornwall’s rugged coastline.
This approach gave us more than imagery; it gave us emotion. Every shot speaks to the values of their brand and the rhythm of their daily life.
The photography was complemented by a short cinematic documentary film, which captures the same story in motion. It weaves together their philosophy of sustainability, family and connection to place, bringing their world to life in an immersive visual narrative.

The Impact
The visuals have already made their way into Culture’s Michelin Guide listing and other digital profiles, helping position the restaurant within the growing movement of sustainable fine dining in the UK.
We also shared select imagery on our own channels, where posts featuring Culture received over 28,000 views across two carousels on Instagram, which is a strong signal that audiences are deeply engaged with authentic, story-led content!
Their feedback said it all:
“These are amazing. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing them with us.”
"For us this project felt different from the beginning. In an age where sustainability is diluted through social media, it is extremely difficult as a small business to get your message across. We are extremely proud of our ethos and how we choose to run our restaurant. To be able to tell our story through this series alongside other exceptional restaurants has been phenomenal"
What This Means for Your Brand
Visual storytelling like this isn’t just beautiful content; it’s brand strategy in motion. For hospitality brands, the power of documentary-led storytelling lies in its ability to connect emotionally with guests while reinforcing brand identity and values.
Key Takeaways for Hospitality Brands:
- Authentic, story-led visuals build deeper trust and emotional connection with guests.
- Sustainability stories resonate with audiences who value purpose-driven dining.
- Cinematic storytelling assets can be used across multiple platforms, like website hero films, PR and press, and digital campaigns.
- Working with a creative team that understands both hospitality and storytelling ensures consistency between brand experience and brand image.
Looking Ahead
Our work with Culture Restaurant set the tone for the entire Earth to Table series, which a celebration of chefs and producers who are quietly changing the way we think about food.
Next, we travel north to Pine in Northumberland, where we explore a completely different expression of sustainable fine dining - one rooted in woodland, fermentation, and foraged flavours.
If your brand is looking to tell its story through a documentary-led lens, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s create something that connects.
